°Ä²Ê¿ª½± Statement As Election Day Polls Begin to Close Across the United States

Montgomery, Ala. — °Ä²Ê¿ª½± President and CEO Margaret Huang issued the below statement as polling stations begin to close in the eastern United States:

“This election season has been a source of energy and inspiration for many of us. We have seen the enormous dedication of millions of Americans across the country, overcoming the unprecedented challenges presented by the coronavirus pandemic to exercise their right to vote.

“Despite attempts in some areas to make the process needlessly difficult, Americans have turned out to vote in record-breaking numbers, by mail, through early voting or in-person on Election Day. This is a testament to our faith in democratic processes.

“As we wait for the election results, it’s time to come together as one nation and demand that our elected officials tackle the very real issues our country faces, from the still-spreading coronavirus pandemic to longstanding problems related to health care, economic justice, racial justice and civil rights.

“And we must remember that today is only one step in a long journey for our nation and there’s a great deal of work left to do. The °Ä²Ê¿ª½± will continue to do its part to build a more equitable and fair nation for all.â€
