°Ä²Ê¿ª½± Statement on 2020 Election Results

Montgomery, Ala. — °Ä²Ê¿ª½± President and CEO Margaret Huang released the following statement as news outlets called the state of Pennsylvania for Joe Biden, giving him 273 electoral college votes to push him over the required threshold to win the presidential election.

“The American people have spoken and they have chosen their new president. By turning out in record numbers for this historic election, voters have given us so much hope for the future of our country. The engagement we have seen from communities across the South is also a victory for community organizing.

“This election reaffirms the necessity of our work for racial justice, dismantling white supremacy, strengthening intersectional movements, and advancing human rights for all. We recommit to the urgent work of decriminalizing and decarcerating black and brown communities, eradicating poverty in communities of color, protecting voting rights and civic participation, and dismantling white nationalism.

“It’s time to come together as a nation and we urge both campaigns to work together to secure a smooth transition of power. There’s a lot of work to be done in the next years and we will do our part to protect our democracy.â€
