°Ä²Ê¿ª½± APPLAUDS STRIKING DOWN OF TITLE 42 POLICY

WASHINGTON — Rebecca Cassler, senior staff attorney for the °Ä²Ê¿ª½±â€™s Immigrant Justice Project, released the following statement in response to Tuesday’s decision by the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia to strike down a Trump-era policy used by U.S. Customs and Border Protection to expel and turn back asylum seekers in violation of the law and without due process. The ruling puts an end to a policy, known as Title 42, that has been used to deny migrants access to the U.S. asylum process over 2 million times since March 2020.

“We applaud the decision from the D.C. District Court to end the government’s cruel and illegal Title 42 policy. We fully expect the government to return to inspecting and processing asylum seekers at the southern border as domestic and international law require.â€
