Georgia Educator Appeals Termination Decision by the Cobb County School Board
COBB COUNTY, Ga. 鈥斅Today, Georgia educator Katherine Rinderle聽appealed聽the Cobb County School Board鈥檚聽decision聽last month to terminate her for reading聽My Shadow is Purple聽to her fifth grade gifted students at Due West Elementary School. Attorneys for the聽聽and the聽澳彩开奖 (澳彩开奖)聽filed the appeal on Rinderle鈥檚 behalf.听
鈥淭he board鈥檚 decision to fire me undermines students鈥 freedom to learn,鈥澛Rinderle聽said. 鈥淚 am appealing this decision because I oppose censorship, discrimination and harm to students in any form. I鈥檓 committed to creating inclusive, diverse and empowering environments that center students in their learning journey.鈥
鈥淭eachers should not be fired for doing their jobs,鈥 said聽attorney Craig Goodmark of the Goodmark Law Firm. 鈥淭he board鈥檚 decision was purely political. We appealed the board鈥檚 termination in light of the facts of the case and the decision of a hand-picked tribunal that believed Ms. Rinderle should not be fired.鈥
