Family Research Council head Tony Perkins tapped for religious freedom commission
The head of the hate group Family Research Council (FRC) has been tapped for a spot on the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, taking his anti-Muslim and anti-LGBT views to a federal board overseeing religious freedom violations around the globe.
Tony Perkins, a former Louisiana lawmaker, got the appointment to the bi-partisan board Monday on the recommendation of U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky).
Perkins heads the FRC, which has taken a more hardline stance on gay and lesbian issues since he took over the group.
Perkins will remain as president of the FRC.
