What's in a Name?
The Te-Ta Ma Truth Foundation's Church of the Creator is devoted to "Love, Light And Peace" — unlike the neo-Nazi World Church of the Creator. So Te-Te Ma sued for copyright infringement.
If it weren't for the name they share, it would be hard to confuse the World Church of the Creator (WCOTC) with the Te-Ta Ma Truth Foundation's Church of the Creator.
WCOTC is a neo-Nazi group whose Creativity "religion" boils down to a phrase by its founder: "White people are the originators and creators of all worthwhile culture and civilization."
The Te-Ta Ma church is dedicated to the "Family Unification Of Mankind." Where WCOTC's works for a "Whiter and Brighter World," Te-Ta Ma favors "Love, Light And Peace."
Te-Ta Ma Truth Foundation officials didn't like the similarity in titles and sued the WCOTC in federal court for copyright infringement in 2000. This summer, they won the case in a federal appellate court. The WCOTC has asked the Supreme Court to review the case.
In the meantime, WCOTC leader Matt Hale has asked his followers to call Te-Ta Ma's lawyers. "You can ask to speak to any of these scoundrels and spend as much time as you desire taking them away from their mission of destroying our identity and religious liberty," Hale wrote. "Do your duty in this realm, my Brothers and Sisters, and I will do my duty in the legal realm."
