James B. Hughes Jr.
James B. Hughes Jr. is a faculty member of the Emory University School of Law, where he has previously served as interim dean, vice dean, and associate dean for academic affairs. His academic pursuits focus on property law and legal ethics/professional responsibility.
He has served as a faculty counselor to the university’s board of trustees and as chairperson of the Emory University Faculty Hearing Committee. He was named Most Outstanding Professor by the Emory Law Student Bar Association. The university’s Black Law Student Association named him Professor of the Year.
Throughout his career, Hughes has remained engaged in voluntary public interest work, some of which includes serving in the following roles: chairman of the board, City of Atlanta and Fulton County Recreation Authority; member, Georgia Chief Justice’s Committee on Legal Education Opportunity; trustee, The Children’s School Inc.; trustee, Koinonia Partners; director, Alliance Theatre and The Atlanta Children’s Theatre Company; and director, Bedford Pine Child and Family Resources Center Inc.
Hughes received a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing from the University of Connecticut and a Juris Doctor from Yale Law School.
